Sharp Electronics Corporation Field Technical Manager - Electrical/Hardware in Southfield, Michigan

Overview

We are seeking a Field Technical Manager (Electrical H/W) to join our dynamic team in South field, MI. This job requires the display technical experience related to electrical and optical specification. This role is focused on coordinating the automotive LCD display specification, especially electrical and optical, with customer and Sharp Japan engineering team and deeply involving technical requirements in the development as well as issue resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Development: Circuit Design: Develop electrical circuits optimized for automotive LCD modules including power supplies, backlighting, TDDI, and all electronic subsystems within the PCB

  • PCB Layout: Generate multi-layer PCB layouts with considerations for high-speed, low-power, and EMC requirements.

  • Prototyping Board Bring-Up: Assemble and bring-up prototypes, validating individual circuits and subsystems.

  • Debugging: Identify and fix issues that arise during prototype testing, utilizing oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test equipment.

  • SPICE Simulation: Perform detailed circuit simulations to validate designs prior to physical prototyping.

  • Perform WCCA to ensure the circuit designs can operate reliably under worst-case conditions including variations in voltage, temperature, and component tolerances.

  • Documentation: Design Documentation: Generate comprehensive design documentation, including schematics, block diagrams, and detailed design descriptions.

  • EMC Design Guidelines: Implement best practices and guidelines in EMC design, including proper grounding, shielding, and component placement.

  • Pre-Compliance Testing: Conduct in-house EMC pre-compliance testing to identify any issues prior to formal compliance testing.

  • Mitigation Strategies: Develop and implement EMC mitigation strategies for any non-compliance issues, which may include hardware re-designs or component substitutions.

  • Test Plans & Reports: Create test plans, procedures, and detailed test reports to verify the system meets all functional and performance requirements.

  • Vendor Management: Oversee vendors during the component selection, fabrication, and assembly phases.

  • Client Support: Engage in client meetings to discuss technical aspects and to provide solutions for unique requirements.

  • Work/Communicate closely with Sharp Japan engineering team to define display specification.

  • Follow customer product development milestones as well as internal program management process for successful milestone deliveries.

  • Analyze PCBA and Hands-on debugging if needed. Must have excellent lab skills (using oscilloscopes, logic analyzer, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, optical measurement equipment, soldering skills etc).

  • Develops technical documents to assist customers with interfacing our LCD products.

  • Apply experience, lesson learned and strong principles to improve EMC and circuit/layout design.

  • Work with cross-functional team to launch the product successfully from RFQ to mass production.

  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills with an ability to evaluate information generating possible alternatives and consequences carefully and systematically.

  • Excellent presentation skills that will effectively communicate to an audience in a formal setting as well as at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to influence and shape the decisions of others and to work through issues or conflicts.

  • Strong commitment to providing world-class customer service and support to exceed expectations by taking the initiative and anticipating customer needs throughout the designing, promoting, and delivery of products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or system engineering with at least 7 years of working experience in display related industries. Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Good experience and knowledge with LCD, TFT, backlight technology

  • Experience in analog/digital design, signal/power integrity, etc.

  • Experience with Or-CAD for circuit design and simulation

  • Familiar with TI FPD link / Maxim GSML

  • Ability to collaborate with HQ design team and customers.

  • Strong knowledge of OEM development process

  • Experience in working with international, cross-functional teams.

  • Experience of optical data analysis with Python language is a plus.

  • Japanese language is plus.

  • This position will be through Sharp’s partner Trilogy and consideration of conversion to SEC position at a later time. Benefits are available thru Trilogy.

Compensation for this position

The compensation range for this consultant role is $86,700- $159,800. The listed salary range or contractual rate excludes bonuses, incentives, differential pay, and any other forms of compensation or benefits. The starting salary will be determined by several variables, including but not limited to experience, education, training, certification, and location. You may also be eligible to receive an annual discretionary incentive award, commissions, and program-specific awards, which are subject to the rules governing these programs.
